Hair Growth Cycle
At Carte Blanche Wax Lounge, I want my clients to understand the hair growth cycle. Understanding and learning how to use the hair growth cycle to your advantage!
There are three phases of hair growth cycle:
-
Anagen (growth)
-
Catagen (transition)
-
Telogen (rest)
Anagen growth is the active phase, the hair follicle forms and shapes to produce the hair fibre. The anagen phase can be further broken down into proanagen and metanagen phases. The anagen stage is the ideal time to get waxed because hair is effectively removed from the root. Getting on a good routine by waxing every 4-6 weeks helps slow down hair regrowth.
Waxing every 4-6 weeks, can help slow down the hair regrowth process, with a good aftercare routine. If you notice there is new hair soon after your wax appointment, this will be the new baby hairs coming through that the wax could not get to due to their length.
Before & Aftercare Advice
I want to offer my clients top services with before and aftercare advice. I advise my clients follow these guidelines to get the best results out of your treatment before and after.
Before Treatment:
I recommend these guidelines to help reduce any pain during treatment:
-
Before waxing: hair must be 1/4-inch long — 1/2-inch long at the most. If it's too short, reschedule your appointment until the hair is long enough. If it's too long, lightly, trim the area or ask a technician to help.
-
Exfoliate: 24-48 hours before your appointment. This will keep the skin soft and smoother and prevent ingrown hairs.
-
Bath or shower: on the day of your appointment to open up follicles, allowing for easier hair removal.
-
Do not apply any deodorants, make-up, lotions, soaps, powders, perfumes or self-tanning products to the area to be waxed.
After Treatment:
After waxing it is normal to experience some
-
Some experience reddness and blood spots due to thicker, courser hair.
-
Tenderness and tingling.
24-48 hours after a wax treatment avoid the following to prevent irritating and cause infection to the skin:
-
Avoid excessive heat, hot showers and baths, lukewarm and cold are best.
-
Avoid Jacuzzis, steam rooms or saunas as pores are open and could cause infection.
-
Avoid excessive perspiration for 2 hours e.g. gym, swimming or exercise.
-
Avoid tanning, sun beds and sun exposure. If you cannot avoid UV rays and have to be in the sun, wear a high SPF.
I recommend booking your wax 2 days before your holiday, to allow the follicles ample time to close and the skin to calm down.
-
Avoid false tan, perfumed products, moisturisers, make-up and deodorants.
-
Try to avoid underwear and tight clothing when intimately waxed, this can aggravate the area.
Note: Your appointment will be performed in the comfort of your own home. I suggest wearing pajamas or something loose and comfortable, if possible.
-
Do not shave or exfoliate in between waxing appointments.
-
Do not touch and scratching the waxed area.
-
Do exfoliate the waxed area.
-
Do not wash or scrub this area, just let the water run over the area.
-
Do keep the area clean and dry.
Best tips 24-48 hours after treatment for best results:
-
Apply a soothing lotion, (Joboba oil, aloe vera, shea butter) to sooth and to rehydrate the skin, this will easy any discomfort.
-
Appling tea tree oil to the area for its anti-bacterial benefits ensuring the skin remains bacteria free.
-
3-10 days after your wax treatment, to prevent ingrown hairs, the skin will close over the follicles and new hair may get trapped causing ingrown hairs. This is preventable by gently exfoliating 2-3 times a week with a body scrub.
-
Avoid over exfoliating, as this can cause damage to the skin barrier and cause micro-tears, which can result in infection.
-
Apply a nourishing humectant based moisturiser. CeraVe is a great choice, as it has ceramides as one of its main ingredients or shea butter. Moisturising the skin after a shower or bath while damp, will prevent ingrown hairs and will lock in moisture. This will also make future wax sessions easier and slightly less painful.
